What our graduates say
I started in the Aurex Constructors graduate program in 2018 and since then I have learnt more than I ever thought possible, especially about business structures and how different departments and teams need to work together. With being a junior mechanical engineer, the focus is often on the technical aspects, but this program has expanded my view on how projects work in the real world and how important teamwork is across the company. I have been exposed to some exciting projects and learnt about the value of communication and how essential this is to project management. This program has helped me to develop my management and leadership skills, and I know that this experience will have a positive impact on my career in the future.
I have really enjoyed the graduate programme as it helped me connect the dots with all the theory I studied during my degree and how the actual industry works. One of the many benefits of being part of this program is the knowledge and experience you gain. You really feel that you are making a difference and learn how your actions and what you do, in terms of planned maintenance, can impact the economy. Teamwork is a big part of the company culture and knowing and understanding how each department in the business works together on a project is beneficial. This programme is a great introduction to the industry, and the team provides you with the support structure needed to learn and grow.
The Aurex Constructors graduate programme has allowed me to gain hands-on experience in the industry and provided me with insight into what it really takes to be a mechanical engineer in this field. We were given the opportunity to attend customer meetings, workshops, and learnt how to communicate in a professional environment. One of the most important lessons learnt was around time management, especially where shutdowns are concerned. It gave us insight into the impact that different actions and teamwork have on a project. I have also really enjoyed the rotation of sites and the experience this provided in terms of learning and adapting to how different sites and plants work.

The programme has been an eye-opening experience for me as an individual, as well as a female in the STEM industry, in a very positive way. Even in this male-dominated field, I felt welcomed, and like I had a place to make my mark. I have learnt a lot through the program and have been exposed to different sites across the country and seen projects from inception to execution. One of the definite pros to being part of this program is being able to work with a diverse group of people who welcomed the chance to share their knowledge, expertise, and experience with us.
